Following up on this. I got my first flat on the road on these wheels. I had flipped front/rear about a thousand km ago. At home this seemed to go OK. In the field, I couldn't get the damn tire off. Well, it took about 15 mins. Tire levers seemed a little crappy (ie 'bendy') which didn't inspire confidence (I will now sort out all my bike kits with Pedros).
Getting it back on, also a PITA. Lots of trouble with it, also using levers to get it on. I don't like doing that as there is a danger you could hit the tube, but didn't have a lot of choice. Eventually on the check for tube where the bead should engage, there was a bit that stuck out. First time actually seeing that happen. Not sure how to get it in there, couldn't push it, the rim tape seemed to be a little sticky and pliable in places. So tried pumping the tube up a bit. Nothing. Probably pinched it getting it on.... ugh.
Was fed up. Thankfully, here (Singapore) one can get a cab (well, Uber) fairly easily, so that got me home. But I certainly felt defeated that I couldn't change a damn tire. Many people here don't even carry repair stuff because it is so easy to get a cab, but the shame of carrying it and it not working!
Quite annoyed. But hey, now I am going to take it to the shop and have them change the rim tape, get new tires, and then it'll come home CLEAN! Will go up to 25s from the 23s. Bit of a shame, these tires have lasted over 5000km and really have some more to go.... but really cornering confidence is so much better on wheels with 25s.....
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
